Lože

Lože is a village primarily known by its castle and by its winegrowers / wines. It is located about 2 km to the South of Vipava and close to the villages of Goče, Manče and Slap.

Above the village and a wineyard a castle is located. Generaly designated as 'Lože castle' its other name is Leitenburg or Leutemburg castle. It was originally built in the 12th century, although in its present form its dates in part from baroque period (17th century). After WW2, a fruit- and winegrowers school was set in the castle and its adjoining buildings. In the recent few years it has been renovated but it remains closed for visits.
